Spring is well under way, the plants are in the ground (or soon will be), now is the time to pay attention to watering.
Freshly transplanted itty bitty seedlings need a lot of TLC, including watering once or twice daily.
Water the soil rather than the leaves (it would mostly evaporate and potentially create good conditions for fungal diseases), and in the morning or early evening. Make sure that your plants are mulched so that you don’t splash soil onto the underside of leaves, which can also trigger diseases.
When your plants are established, watering deeply 2 or 3 times a week is the goal, depending of course on current conditions. Test the soil by sticking your finger one inch deep. If it’s dry, water. If not, wait. Overwatering can harm your plant more than letting them go thirsty for a bit, which actually encourages them to grow more roots in search of water!
Trees also need water, especially in the Fall. Keep watering them until the first frost, deeply and mostly on the drip line where their feeding roots grow.
